Abstract
700,000 people die due to antibiotic resistant infections worldwide today. There are many factors that contribute to this deadly epidemic, however some of the main causes are overprescription by medical professionals and antibiotics being transferred to humans through the livestock industry. There is no preventing antibiotic resistance at this point, but there are steps that can be taken to prevent this epidemic from growing and alternatives to antibiotics being discovered. The filthy conditions livestock are kept in must be improved so that the animals are not given antibiotics as a preventative measure. The general public must also be educated more about this growing resistance so that people do not always expect to receive antibiotics from their doctor. In turn, doctors must prescribe antibiotics only when absolutely necessary and not just based on suspicion.
